A Short Story by Me

Greetings, world. Today I shall share with all you a production of my very own. It was written two years ago for the final project of the subject Written Language III in the teacher trainning college where I study. I got my inspiration for writing this story from a psychological test which became kind of viral back when I was in secondary school. It is more of a legend, I later learned. But it was pretty cool back then. If you are interested in reading this story, I'd recommend you to read it first and read the story of the psychological test later. Once you finished, you will understand why.
Without any further introduction, my story: The Dark Side of Love.

The Dark Side of Love, by Joaquin Kruel
Cassie was the type of girl who liked to talk. She hated being the centre of attention, but stories were her flaw. She hated when people told stories the wrong way, and as both a scientist and a mathematician, she believed that truth in facts were divine and beautiful. That is why she dec…

About that great reading journey of mine...

Imagen
Hello, language enthusiasts, and welcome to another entry of this little english corner: My english corner. Today I just want to share with you one of the best reading experiences I've ever had. It happened three years ago. I was 20 years old and I was developing a great interest in science, and I shared all my knowledge with whomever I came across. One of those people was a very close friend of mine, with whom I would spend hours speaking about the wonders of nature. All of our knowledge back then came from tv shows and youtube videos; none of us had ever read a science book other than for school. So I searched for recommendations and came across this wonderful, wonderful book which changed me forever. I bought the book in spanish for my friend since her English is not that good, and I downloaded a copy in pdf and read it on my phone. What I proposed to her was to read a chapter every week and then get together on the weekend to discuss it. This way I thought that we would be mo…

Science in the language field!

Imagen
Hello everyone! As I commented in my last post, I've been quite busy lately, and things have not changed. But somehow I always have some spare time that I like to spend watching videos on YouTube or reading about interesting things. And what I find most interesting (at least now, since my likes tend to change from time to time) is SCIENCE! Yes, I love science. The understanding of the world that surrounds us by observing and experimenting with it is something astonishing for me. And the results to which you can get by just doing this two things BLOW ME AWAY! I've always been more interested in the fields of physics and astrophysics, but when I entered the teacher training college I was presented with a term which really blew my mind and of which I have never heard before: LINGUISTICS, which is the field that studies Language. And as a teacher of a Language and a very curious person, it was only logical that it was going to catch my attention the way it did.  I read a lot of int…

On the matter of studying

Imagen
Hello there. It's been a while now. I've been very busy lately, with basically two jobs, a studying carreer and carreer and four bands to rehearse, record, and play with. And in between all this, many Term Tests at the teacher trainning college did not make things easier. But I somehow managed to survive, and even though I still haven't got the results of any of my exams yet, I feel pretty confident that I did my best. And this is the topic I want to adress today.
We've all been there. No matter what you are studying, there is always an evaluation point, and it usually takes the form of a formal examination. And in order to pass this, you need to know what you are going to talk/write about, and it demands preparation. In my case, there are some strategies I came up with duting High School and ever since then they have accompanied me throughout the studying journey.
1. The space. I cannot study properly if the area surrounding me is not adequate. Everything has to be ti…

The benefits of a bilingual brain

Imagen
If you are reading and understanding this text, that mean you know the English Language. And, since most probably you are reading this entry in Argentina, chances are you have a bilingual brain. Well, congratulations! That is not everyone has. But it is though something anybody COULD have in theory. Now, have you ever wondered if there are any benefits from this?  The following video comes from a Lesson by Mia Nacamulli for Ted-Ed, and it explains these benefits in a very simple way.  I hope you enjoy it!

Have a nice day!

Is there a Gene for Language?

Imagen
Hello! Today I wanna share with you a video in which experts in many science fields talk about what in known as the "Language Gene". This may come as a surprise to many of us, but there is quite a concensus on the matter that there are genetic traits passed on from one generation to another which may account for the ability to acquire and manipulate language. Well, maybe these fellows can explain it better than I do, so here's the video y'all!
I hope you like it, it's quite interesting.

Example of an instructional sequence around a task

Imagen
Hello everyone! Today I want to share with you something I learnt in the Teacher Trainning College. We've been reading about Task-Based Language Teaching and for homework we had to create an instructional sequence following the steps presented by David Nunan in his book "task-based language teaching"

Below the chart you will find one task presented with its Microfunctions, Macrofunctions and the grammar involved within it. This idea of representing the Functions of language comes originally from Michael Halliday, and Nunan adapted it to the world of tasks.
I hope you like it and that you can implement this in your classrooms. Its a good way of planning and also of reflecting on your practice if you are a teacher. And if you are not, maybe you can learn about how we teachers plan having in mind all these different concepts.  BTW: The video mentioned in the tasks can be found here ;)

Step 1 Watch a short clip about Clarence’s morning day (TV show). Identify the differe…
